#7 - Why Do Cats Have Tails?

Some people say cats have tails for balance. It helps the cat to balance during the climbing, jumping and also during the secret ability to self-turning if the cat falls from the high place.

For example, if it is walking along a narrow wall or fence and decides to look over in one direction, thereby shifting its center of gravity, it will automatically move its tail in the other direction, re-establishing its body's center of gravity and keeping it from falling off. The tail is also used as a counter weight when changing direction suddenly at high speed.

But this is debatable, as cats with amputated tails do not lose their sense of balance. Like the Manx Cat which is tailless, but it is no different from other cats and can balance itself like any other cat.
